Issue: August 16, 2018

Hi everybody!
Traffic changes on the streets around Northern Nevada during the months
of August and September. August kicks off with Hot August Nights—fleets
of vibrant cars from the '50s, '60s and beyond. And then at the end of
September, there's Street Vibrations—big ol' motorcycles, revved up loud.
But between those two events, something even stranger takes to the
streets: cars that look like ships rigged up with LED lights, a
disproportionate number of RVs, many of them from faraway lands, and
many, many vehicles coated in a strange, chalky dust.
Yep. 'Tis the season for the season for the Burn. We've got a Burning
Man-themed issue this week. Lots of stories about what folks might
encounter out there on the playa this year.
But if you're already sick of hearing about life in Black Rock City,
we've got you covered for that too. In our Tahoe column, we've got a
story about tree mortality around the lake. In News, we've got a piece
about an initiative petition to get rid of Nevada's primary election. In
Musicbeat, we've got an interview with the acclaimed Mexican band Los
Tigres del Norte in advance of their show at the Silver Legacy on Aug. 31.
As always, be sure to pick up a newsprint copy of the paper for
exclusive columns, cartoons and back-to-school collage materials.
Thanks for reading!
