Issue: May 03, 2018
Welcome to this week's Reno News & Review!
If you're new in town, here's a local tip: If there's still snow on Peavine Mountain, informed Renoites hold their horses before planting tomatoes. It's a rule that reminds us that, in the high desert, winter weather can strike any time in spring.
There is still a little snow up there. But no one said you couldn't start planning that tomato garden—or a dip in Tahoe, a ride on the river, or whatever signifies summer for you. And it's definitely time to start looking forward to summer movies. In this week's feature story, Movie Guy Bob Grimm predicts the next few months' worth of blockbusters, flops and everything in between, and Illustration Guy Mike Grimm drew some great pictures to go with the article.
Also in this issue, Special Projects Editor Jeri Chadwell found out how loaded dice work—and introduced us to a collector of gambling memorabilia. Theater Critic Jessica Santina fell in love with Hedwig and the Angry Inch, which is being staged as a collaboration between two local theater companies, and, for the Drink column, contributor Matt Bieker learned about the how the homebrew scene has changed in town since the rise of craft brewing.
Speaking if summer plans, 'tis the season for you to vote on your favorite local bars, barbers and baristas—plus all the other people, places and things you love—and for us to drink a lot of coffee and compile the results for our Best of Northern Nevada issue, which comes out in August. Voting opened today. Visit bestofnorthernnevada.com, and please tell all your friends.
As always, thank you for reading.
