Issue: July 21, 2016

Hey folks,
We did something a little unusual this week. This issue was slated to be our annual Back to School guide, featuring education stories and a Family Guide supplement focused on family-friendly day trips, but as we were working on the issue, we noticed contentious local discussions surrounding a Black Lives Matter demonstration and march in downtown Reno. We decided that the march and related discussions were too important to not give center stage. So this week's issue includes, in effect, two cover story packages: 1. The Back to School stories and road trip Family Guide, and 2. A photo essay and expanded News section focused on Black Lives Matter events and discussions.
Consider it two cover stories for the price of one. And that price, as always, is free.
And we've got great content in all of our usual features. For Art of the State, arts editor Kris Vagner profiled legendary local painter Greg Allen. Food reviewer Todd South scoped out a Mediterranean restaurant with food he says is "outstanding." And columnist Bruce Van Dyke explored some of Nevada's lesser known roadside attractions.
Be sure to pick a newsprint copy of the paper for exclusive columns, cartoons and tactile sensations.
Thanks for reading! If it weren't for you, we'd have no reason to ever do anything unusual.
Love,
Brad Bynum
