Issue: April 14, 2016
Hi everybody,
You might have noticed that, all of a sudden, there are seemingly dozens
of "vape shops" all around the valley. Using a vaporizer, a smoking
alternative, has really caught on in the last few years. And alongside
it has arisen a whole subculture. Our special projects editor, Jeri
Chadwell-Singley, dove in for a full report on the local vape scene.
Also in this week's issue, our environmental reporter, Kelsey
Fitzgerald, talked to a meteorologist who says that this year's wet
winter and spring might actually lead to a fiery summer. In A&C, our
theater critic, Jessica Santina, details a summer-long collaboration
among local schools and arts organizations to celebrate the plays of
William Shakespeare. In news, we report on opposition to UNR plans to
plow under a 19th century neighborhood. And our final page this week is
something of an accidental sports page: I interviewed San Francisco
Giants broadcaster--and Reno resident--Mike Krukow for 15 Minutes, and
columnist Bruce Van Dyke meditated on the recent successes of the Golden
State Warriors for his column.
As always, be sure to pick up a newsprint copy of the paper for
exclusive columns, cartoons and pages on which to collect your toenail
clippings or mustache trimmings.
Thanks for reading! If not for you, we'd still be smoking cigarettes.
