Issue: August 14, 2014

Hi everybody,
Well, it's time for our biggest issue of the year: the results of our
annual Biggest Little Best of Northern Nevada readers' poll.
Thousands of you, devoted readers of the Reno News & Review, voted to
decide the winners of this year's popularity contest in categories
ranging from Best Reno Restaurant to Best Place to Have Sex in
Public. You readers chose your favorite local bookstores,
politicians, bartenders, desserts and more. We had some surprising
results this year: upstart new businesses surged to the front and old
favorites fell from grace. The individuals and businesses who were
able to mobilize on social media were able to reap their desired
results. We also have fantastic--in every sense of the word--art this
year from local painter Lisa Kurt, who illustrated each category with
a different mythic creature that might be found in Nevada.
But there's more in this issue than just the results of Best Of:
Dennis Myers' takes a look at the ongoing fallout from the school
superintendent's recent temporary suspension, Bob Grimm reviews the
latest formulaic music biopic, and in Musicbeat, Anna Hart profiles
Franc Friday, who just happened to win big in the Best Local Rapper
category in this year's Best Of.
Be sure to pick up the newsprint copy of the paper for exclusive
columns, cartoons and frame-ready results pages.
Thanks for reading! If not for you, there would be no Nevadans to vote.
