Issue: July 12, 2012
Hi everybody,
In many ways, Nevada and Utah are very similar states. They're both
Western, with lots of desert, and populations just shy of 3 million.
But our neighbor to the east is kicking our collective butt in one
important regard: It's the economy, stupid. The reason, in a
nutshell, is that they invested in education, and we did not. In this
week's feature story, news editor Dennis Myers gets down to the nitty
gritty. Elsewhere in the issue, Ashley Hennefer looks at a program
aimed to help Burning Man attendees better dispose of their trash,
movie critic Bob Grimm reviews the new Spider-Man flick, and I chat
with DJ Spooky about his upcoming collaboration with members of the
Reno Philharmonic at the Nevada Museum of Art.
As always, be sure to pick up a newsprint copy of the paper for
exclusive columns, cartoons and tactile sensations.
Thanks for reading! If it weren't for you, we'd move to Utah.
Brad Bynum
RN&R arts editor.
