Issue: January 19, 2012

Hi everybody,
The term "fascist" gets thrown around loosely by politicians and
provocateurs on all sides looking to depict their political opponents
as evil and oppressive. But the National Defense Authorization Act
for Fiscal Year 2012, recently signed into law by President Obama,
which supposedly gives the government legal justification for
indefinite detention without a trial, might actually be fascist. In
this week's feature story, RN&R Editor D. Brian Burghart examines the
new law and its implications. But never fear! In this week's
Arts&Culture story, Special Projects editor Ashley Hennefer talks to
a group of lockpickers who might be able to teach you the necessary
skills to escape from any Orwellian jail cell. And Bob Grimm reviews
some crappy Mark Wahlberg movie.
Be sure to pick up a paper copy for exclusive cartoons and columns.
Thanks for reading! If it weren't for you, we'd be indefinitely detained.
