Issue: June 16, 2011

Hi everybody,
Every once in a while, the Reno News & Review likes to do a theme issue. We've done the Bike Issue, the Sex Issue, the Marijuana Issue. While we didn't intend for it to happen, you could almost call this the Legislative Issue, now that the interminable 76th session has adjourned. In this week's cover story, Dennis Myers takes an inside look at what's wrong with the Legislature—from the bickering and bureaucracy to how citizens just aren't as welcome there as they once were. Then View from the Fray columnist Deidre Pike celebrates a legislative vote for transgender rights while Right to Your Head columnist Sean Cary gives us a legislative wrap-up.
Speaking of votes, it's Biggest Little Best of Northern Nevada time again. So go to www.newsreview.com/reno to vote for your favorite barber, barista and breakfast place—among hundreds of other categories. If you fit one of those categories yourself, don't be afraid to ask your friends, virtual and otherwise, to vote for you. This is a popularity contest, after all.
And don't forget to pick up a paper copy of our little publication for cartoons, horoscopes and other goodies.
As ever, thanks for reading our newspaper. If it weren't for you, we'd have to run for office.
Love and kisses,
Kat Kerlin
