Angle: ‘Take out’ Reid

Since her victory in the Republican U.S. Senate primary, Sharron Angle’s gotten a bump in the polls against U.S. Sen. Harry Reid. The trick for her now is to hang onto that gain when the public gets to know her.

That challenge was complicated this week when national newspapers threw a spotlight on Angle. In a story headlined “Sharron Angle floated possibility of armed insurrection,” the Washington Post published a quote from a January interview of Angle. The quote was from an interview with a Portland talk show. In its entirety, it reads:

“You know our Founding Fathers, they put that Second Amendment in there for a good reason and that was for the people to protect themselves against a tyrannical government. And in fact Thomas Jefferson said it’s good for a country to have a revolution every 20 years. I hope that’s not where we’re going, but you know if this Congress keeps going the way it is, people are really looking toward those Second Amendment remedies and saying, ‘My goodness, what can we do to turn this country around?’ I’ll tell you the first thing we need to do is take Harry Reid out.”

Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal reported that current Republican Angle was previously a member of Nevada’s Independent American Party. The Journal neglected to mention that it was founded as the Nevada affiliate of George Wallace’s American Independent Party, the vehicle for Wallace’s 1968 presidential campaign.
