State highway department photographer Julie Duewel, recently interviewed in these pages (“Shooter,” 15 minutes, May 19), is attracting attention for a photo she took of a safety inspector working on the new bridge across the new Hoover Dam Bypass Bridge.

The shot showing inspector Aleksander Nelson dangling from wires 900 feet above the Colorado River won both grand prize and a “people’s choice” in the “Faces of Transportation” contest held by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials.

It’s the second year Duewel received the grand prize.
