Veterans push for pot use

In other marijuana news, veteran groups are starting to call for Congress to reschedule marijuana because the jury-rig arrangements of many states for medical use do not allow Veterans Administration physicians to prescribe.

Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America and the American Legion of Indiana have provided congressional testimony on medical marijuana use for service-connected maladies. A Legion resolution calls on Congress to “remove marijuana from schedule I and reclassify it in a category that, at a minimum, will recognize cannabis as a drug with potential medical value.”

In Texas, meanwhile, a veterans group called Operation Trapped has been formed to join with Texas NORML and the Marijuana Policy Project to lobby for expansion of the state’s Compassionate Use Act.
