Tummy love

Behind the swirly neon is a bare midriff.

Exposed midriffs are sure to catch anyone’s attention, especially if they are gyrating and swinging to music. And although you may see dancing stomachs at the local clubs, they are probably not tummies that have learned the true art of belly dancing. Asha Belly Dancers and Millennium Performing Arts join forces to bring us bellies and their buttons galore in the Love in the Millennium dance production. Somehow, as the dancers take us on a journey through the world of modern belly dancing, they will also explore the raw emotions associated with love at first sight. The whole idea behind this production makes me think of the lyrics of an Ohio Express song, “Yummy, yummy, yummy, I got love in my tummy and I feel like a-lovin’ you.” Oh, yeah. You can enjoy sweet tummies and bitter love set to the sounds of Arabian music, techno music and, later on, DJ Johnno spinning house music, 8 p.m. Feb. 21-22. Be warned that the dancers encourage active participation. Performances are held at Sub-Brüka, 99 N. Virginia St. Tickets are $10 if purchased at Melting Pot World Emporium and $12 at the door. Call 829-2111.
