Tribute to Toots

Fresh from his 2006 star-studded career tribute in Carnegie Hall, 84-year-old harmonica genius Toots Thielmans was scheduled to deliver his Brazilian-tinged quartet extraordinaire for an evening of jazz mastery. Unfortunately, Thielmans has had to cancel his performance dates worldwide due to exhaustion from a grueling tour schedule, but the show must go on. While Toots will be unable to appear, his quartet members—pianist Kenny Werner, guitarist Oscar Castro-Neves and percussionist Airto Moreira—will be joined by saxophonist David Sanchez for a lively tribute, honoring the legendary master of jazz aptly called by Quincy Jones “One of the greatest musicians of our time.” The performance takes place on Thursday, Nov. 9, at the Nightingale Concert Hall in the Church Fine Arts Building on the UNR campus. Tickets range from $7-$24. Call 784-4278 for more info.
