A plan to build a transmission line connecting renewable energy resources in northern and southern Nevada was approved last week by the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada (PUCN). Called the One Nevada Line (ON Line) transmission project, the plan by NV Energy and LS Power involves a 500-kilovolt transmission line that will provide access to what are currently isolated renewable energy resources.

More than $3 billion in funding for the line comes from the Recovery Act. A statement from Sen. Harry Reid’s office lauded the 400 jobs construction of the project is expected to bring to the state, as well as the “untold number of jobs that will be created as clean energy power plants are built to tie into the line.”
