The Tahoe Rim Trail
It’s hard to read The Tahoe Rim Trail while lying on my bed in Sparks. With almost every page, I feel like leaping up and checking my backpack to see which supplies I need to restock. Hauserman calls this the complete guide for hikers, mountain bikers and equestrians, and he comes pretty close. I through-hiked the trail about this time last year, and I wish I’d had the book on my trip. Sections of the guide include animals and plants (I don’t know how many times I wondered what kind of flower I was looking at), a user’s guide and trail descriptions. I’ve only got one complaint about this book, the Rim Trail is one of the most beautiful places on Earth, couldn’t the photos have been in color? The flat black-and-white images don’t convey the most important reason for hiking the trail. There’s a lot going on in this book about the Lake and the region, it’s a keeper—even for non-hikers.
