The sun makes food grow
A new solar installation at the Food Bank of Northern Nevada is expected to save the nonprofit $33,000 a year—enough to provide 132,000 extra meals for the hungry. Students from Mountain View Montessori and Traner Middle School were invited to a Jan. 14 event there to learn about solar energy from the nonprofit Black Rock Solar, which has installed several solar energy systems in the region at low or no cost. The array of 924 panels can generate up to 150 kilowatts and will cover the entire roof of the 65,000 square foot facility.
