The Snow Show

Fundamentally, it’s all just water and light. But when independent curator Lance Fung teams artists with architects and lets them loose in Lapland, Finland, ice and snow become building blocks for magical , illuminated constructions. Ice is stacked, colored or etched. Snow is cast into buildings. Light from the setting sun (or glowing, underground cables) renders icy tunnels and mazes otherworldly. This exhibition catalog’s leaden text is mercifully brief, and its photos leave an inspiring record for anyone who couldn’t join Rachel Whiteread, Yoko Ono or Zaha Hadid in Lapland. The show (www.thesnowshow.net) has become an annual event; let’s hope the book becomes a series.
