The Host

An evil American scientist orders the dumping of old chemicals into a South Korean river, and a tadpole mutates into a tremendous monster that runs around in broad daylight eating people. So it goes in this remarkably fun monster movie from South Korea that mixes satire and full-bore horror. The monster looks like a cross between Predator and an iguana, and the movie does a nice job with its CGI. The beast blends in nicely with the live action. There’s an American remake in the works, and I’m quite sure our great country will find ways to screw that up real good. Last year gave us The Descent, and now we get this. These are good days for horror fans.
