The Class

Rated 4.0

Author Francois Begaudeau basically plays himself in this absorbing drama based on classes he taught in Paris. The film has a documentary feel as kids and teachers simply interact, but it takes on a dramatic edge when tension builds up between teachers, students and parents. Begaudeau does a very nice job playing a version of himself, and the kids are as real as they get. I’d be curious to see a script on this film, because every line feels so natural and organic. The events seem to be happening rather than dramatized. It’s an interesting film experiment that winds up being a rewarding viewing experience.
