Tenacious D

Tenacious D

A couple of years back, HBO aired some short films featuring two overweight acoustic rockers who considered themselves the world’s greatest band, rocking the house on open mic night. Those films desperately deserve a DVD release, but cult fans can temporarily satiate themselves with this, the band’s first CD. Jack Black (the world’s funniest man) and Kyle Glass make an impressive debut with songs such as "Dio," an ode to the heavy metal godfather who is now too old to rock, and "Kielbasa," a nasty sex song whose lyrics will not be repeated here due to various decency laws. Consistently funny (the album contains some good comedy bits, my favorite being Black’s drive-thru rampage) with strong music featuring some help from Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl, this is a great listen. Tenacious D will reign!
