Taking Lives

Rated 2.0 If you saw the commercials for this film, chances are you can guess the outcome of this silly crime thriller. Angelina Jolie stars as an FBI agent who sleeps in victim’s graves to determine how they were killed and pinpoint the intentions of their murderers. If you think that sounds incredibly stupid, just get a load of what director D.J. Caruso tries to make you buy as things progress. Ethan Hawke costars as a man who supposedly stumbles upon a serial killer as he finishes off a victim, and Kiefer Sutherland lends his face and name to provide confusion as to who the actual killer is. The killer takes the lives of those he dispatches, assuming their identities and wearing their clothes. Sure. Jolie is proving herself a magnet for shit cinema, and Hawke fails to capitalize on the powerful work he did in Training Day. The big revelations are no surprise, and the final scene completely laughable. U2 lent their fantastic song Bad to the soundtrack, and they should be ashamed of themselves.
