Super Size Me

Rated 4.0 All bright eyed and bushy tailed, documentary filmmaker Morgan Spurlock sets off on a culinary adventure: He will eat nothing but McDonald’s for three square meals a day over 30 days and see what effect it has on his body. When any McDonald’s server asks if he wants to “super size” his order, he will graciously accept and devour everything that comes his way. When the experiment starts, he is 6 feet 2 inches, 185 pounds. Over the course of a month, he gains over 20 pounds, loses his sex drive and becomes a lethargic mess. While the film is funny, it’s a harrowing experience to watch this happy man fall apart before your very eyes. His first experience trying to fit a super-size meal in his unaccustomed stomach causes profuse vomiting. Spurlock is a good host, and his film, in many ways, is ingenious. Anybody who can devour a plate of Big Macs after watching this is a very brave person. (CR)
