STDs rising in Washoe
New figures from the Centers for Disease Control show Washoe County experiencing what local health officials call a “remarkable increase” in sexually transmitted diseases (STD) in the county.
Increases were seen in chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis from 2012 to 2013. “Of note, gonorrhea and infectious syphilis cases increased 56 percent and 100 percent respectively from 2012 to 2013,” according to a county statement. Chlamydia saw a smaller increase of 5 percent.
