Spring fever
The Sierra Nevada Balalaika Society gets a jump start on spring with its 13th annual spring concert. The program features a variety of Russian, Ukrainian and Eastern European music. Guest artists include Ola Herasymenko-Oliynyk, who plays the bandura, a Ukrainian instrument that dates back to the seventh century, Romanian dance duo George and Irina Arabagi and vocalists Steven Murdoch and Dawn Hummel. The concert begins 7 p.m. March 12 at Damonte Ranch High School, 10500 Rio Wrangler Parkway. Tickets are $15-$20. Call 746-1809 or 331-0315. —Kelley Lang
