It was one of those crazy RN&R assignments: “It’s spring; go out and get a bunch of fun photos that represent the new season. It’ll give people a break from the mortgage crisis, budget crisis, swine flu crisis—plus it’ll go great with our gardening guide.” Who knew staff photographer Lauren Randolph would end up in a slaughterhouse, hassled by baseball stadium security and awake before 10 a.m.?

When the weather gets nice in Reno, it seems like everyone gears up and trains for kayak season on the Truckee River. Or maybe most of us are simply getting ready to pack up the ice chests and slowly float our way down.

What could be more spring-like than the rewards of the Easter egg hunt?

LucyVee Watson is certainly happy it’s spring. She doesn’t know why, but everyone is outside, and she gets to wear comfortable clothes and cover her face in chocolate Easter treats!

The season of spring also marks a season for baseball this year in Reno. With the new Aces ballpark open, it seems like the home games are the new place to be.

Many people are organizing clothing and second-hand swaps, giving everyone a chance to do some spring-cleaning. There’s nothing like getting rid of your clutter, and collecting someone else’s.

I’m not sure if I even understand the rules of croquet, but on a warm weekend, people love anything that involves being outside on the front lawn.

These swans can be found every year on Manzanita Lake at UNR. While they look peaceful and fun to watch, they’re definitely not the most friendly of creatures. Without my zoom lens, I think I got a little too close for comfort, and their puffed up feathers were a warning sign to back up! Now where are those cygnets?

With Cinco De Mayo just around the corner, some are getting a head start on perfecting their margarita making. Here, my friends and I toast the warm weather with our margaritas.

The cuisine was burgers and hotdogs at a friend’s annual Easter barbecue—the festivities also included the game “Chubby Bunny,” a race to see who could shove the most marshmallow Peeps into their mouths.

Finding lambs should be easy in the spring, especially because I’ve heard they’re almost always born during March. I knew exactly where to find them, too. I’ve driven past the UNR farm off McCarran Boulevard hundreds of times. However, when trying to find out how to get closer, I stumbled into the butcher building. I saw all I needed to see and quickly turned around to find my own way to the livestock. I pulled over on McCarran and hopped out of my car with my camera. Those sheep were all staring right at me.

At least the daffodils are able to withstand the Reno weather in the spring. These flowers still stand tall and bright through the rain, sun, and even the last couple of snowstorms.

When the weather gets nice, all manner of people and birds are attracted to the city’s parks.
