For five years, the RN&R has been asking its readers to choose the best Northern Nevada has to offer. And in each of those five years, the readers have voted Mount Rose as the top ski resort.

The resort does have quite a lot going for it—and it’s all about location, location, location. It is in a convenient place—located off the Mount Rose Highway, it’s closer for many skiers who live in Reno or Incline Village than all of the California resorts. As a matter of fact, resort officials claim that Mount Rose is closer to an international airport (in this case, Reno/Tahoe International Airport) than any other ski resort on Earth.

The resort also can boast about the fact that it has the highest base elevation of any Tahoe-area resorts at 8,260 feet above sea level. Finally, the resort offers some incredible views, including Washoe Valley on one side, and Lake Tahoe on the other. Ever since 1987, Mount Rose—Ski Tahoe has operated runs on both Mount Rose and Slide Mountain, meaning skiers have a wide variety of runs and terrain to choose from.

As of now, the ski resort sits quietly. But, remember, it’s already October—meaning the snow should be coming very, very soon. That means Mount Rose will be hopping sooner than you can say "powder."
