Slow growing green

The green economy is growing, but not by much, according to an April report by the U.S. Department of Commerce. Between 1.8 and 2.4 million jobs were considered to be “green” in 2007, the range reflecting both narrow and broad definitions of the term. “In this report, a product or service was considered ‘green’ based on whether it conserves energy and other natural resources or reduces pollution,” the report stated. These made up 1.5 to 2 percent of total private sector jobs. The analysis is meant to provide a starting point for measuring progress of the green economy in the United States.
