Director Robert Rodriguez and writer Frank Miller combine forces to adapt Miller’s sadistic graphic novel to the screen, and the results are often incredible. I’m not a big fan of the novel, yet I liked this movie. While films like Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow botched the integration of live actors into an animated world, Rodriguez has created something remarkable to look at. Mickey Rourke as a vengeful beast of a man, Bruce Willis as an aging cop and Benicio Del Toro as a talking head perform admirably, as do Jessica Alba, a scintillating stripper and Rosario Dawson, a bullheaded hooker. The film is vulgar and violent, so steer clear of it if you like your movies tame.
