Shadow of the sun

Rainshadow Community Charter High School is going solar. Black Rock Solar and NV Energy installed more the 200 solar panels on the roof of the school building, 121 Vesta St. (There’s a joke to be made somewhere about how the only time the panels won’t work is when Rainshadow is in the shadow of a rain cloud.) On the evenings and weekends, the building doubles as the primary concert venue for the Holland Project, an all-ages art and music organization.

“We think that this is the first solar-powered all-ages venue in the country,” said Brittany Curtis, the Holland Project’s director. A groundbreaking ceremony, featuring rooftop tours and live music, will be held at the school from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 6.
