See ya Kris, hello Kat
Welcome to this week’s Reno News & Review.
Hey everybody, I want you all to welcome Kat Kerlin. She’s taking over as arts editor as Kris Vagner moves on to other things. Kris got an offer to work with the Fireplace Gallery, 518 W. Second St. Although Kris is going to continue writing for us, I’m going to miss having her around the office. She has a nice upbeat style that made it fun to have her around.
Kat’s new in town, but I have a good feeling about her. She’s got a degree in journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia, did some time at E, The Environmental Magazine, two years in the Peace Corps in Ecuador, and a year at a small daily in California. She’s got that dry Midwestern sense of humor and appears to look before she leaps.
I’ve got great hopes for her. I’ll tell you, a job like this can really test your sense of humor at times.
Anyway, she’s been writing for us for a few weeks now. Her first assignment was the story about the potential for development at the Mt. Rose ski resort, “Down the pipe.” I thought she did a great job. In the weeks following, she’s hit local government, music and the homeless.
Along other lines, I’m curious what you think about the new “teaser” strip down the cover. I’ve had two or three comments in favor of it, and about the same from people who think our naughty blurbs cheapen our image. I’m not taking a poll, I’m just curious.
Along still other lines, thanks for all the kind comments and well wishes about my back injury. It seems to be healing really quickly, and, although my doctor said I had to wait 4-6 weeks before I dive back into karate, I’m already getting a little impatient. Jeez, seems like it’s been a while since I hurt myself on a weight machine.
