Searching for adventure

Do you like TV shows about lost civilizations? Then you shouldn’t miss the 15th annual “Spirit of Exploration” awards dinner presented by Andean Explorers Foundation & Ocean Sailing Club. The Reno-based AEF & OSC has made headlines around world for its quests across land and sea in search of lost cultures and cities. The explorers’ latest adventure took them to Gran Saposoa, an ancient city in Peru which the organization claims pre-dates Incan civilization and which AEF & OSC founder Gene Savoy suggests could be the basis of the ancient legend of El Dorado. The expedition was filmed in 2001 and produced with Discovery International for a TV documentary titled, Lost City in the Clouds. The English version of the program makes its American debut during this fund-raising event, which includes a concert by the Foundation Orchestra and a scholarship awards presentation. The concert features a musical piece by Charles Fitts called Cobá, which won the Foundation Orchestra’s international composition competition this summer. The concert begins 6:30 p.m. Oct. 13 at the Eldorado Showroom, 345 N. Virginia St. Concert tickets are $25-$35. Tickets for the concert and awards dinner are $125 per person and $35 for students.
