Roll out the barrel

Raise a stein of beer (or two, or three) during the Silver Club’s Oktoberfest. The hotel-casino hosts the autumnal celebration of German food, drink and music this weekend. The event features crafts, activities for the kids, food and beer gartens and the Paul Bunyan Lumberjack Show. Other entertainment includes performances by The Sauerkrauts, who play traditional favorites like the Chicken Dance and the Beer Barrel Polka. They will hit the stage at 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Sept. 29 and 10:30am, 1:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. Sept. 30. LynnMarie & the Boxhounds (pictured) also perform during the two-day event. LynnMarie’s blend of rock, pop and polka and winning stage presence prompted The Tonight Show host Jay Leno to dub her the “Dixie Chick of polka.” Several of her albums have been nominated for Grammy Awards including her band’s 2003 self-titled release and 2002’s The Polka Record. The button accordionist performs 6 p.m. Sept. 29 and noon, 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. Sept. 30. The festival takes place at Victorian Square, in front of the Silver Club, 1040 Victorian Ave., Sparks.
