Roll calls

U.S. Rep. Dean Heller was one of more than three dozen Republicans who crossed the aisle to vote with Democrats on stem-cell research.

On June 7, the House gave final congressional approval to a bill to lift restrictions on federal funding of the research. Heller and Democratic Rep. Shelly Berkley of Clark County both supported the measure. Republican Jon Porter failed to vote.

The Senate had voted on the measure April 11, with Nevada’s John Ensign opposed and Harry Reid in favor.

In other action, Nevada’s senators also split on whether to hold a symbolic vote on a non-binding vote of confidence for U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez. Ensign voted against the idea; Reid supported it.
