Reid needs another 60 votes

After some unfavorable reactions to U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano’s comment that “the system worked” in the case of an alleged Christmas Day bombing on a Northwest Airlines plane, Sen. Harry Reid on Monday pointed to a holdup of Senate confirmation of one of President Obama’s homeland security appointees, Erroll Southers, by a single GOP senator, Jim DeMint. Reid said in January he will try to get 60 votes for cloture to break DeMint’s hold on the nomination as head of the Transportation Security Administration.
