Recycle the burn

Burners going to and from the playa can lighten their recyclable loads for free at several local Albertsons and Save Mart supermarkets from Aug. 25 through Sept. 5. The Reno Drive-Thru Recycling Initiative will have bins set up in the stores’ parking lots ready for clean plastics (HDPE 1, 2, 4, 5), glass, all metals, paper, cardboard, rechargeable batteries, and bikes. Black Rock Bicycles will fix up the bikes and donate some to the Kiwanis bike program, others to the Reno Bike Project and will rent others to Burners next year. Proceeds raised from the recyclables are donated to support environmental initiatives and education through Gerlach High School. Participating locations in Reno are: 525 Keystone Ave., 195 W. Plumb Lane, 4995 Kietzke Lane and 10500 N. McCarran Blvd. In Sparks: 565 Prater Way and 9750 Pyramid Lake Hwy. And in Carson City at 3620 N. Carson St.
