Ratatouille

Rated 5.0

Brad Bird, the mastermind behind Pixar’s The Incredibles, does it again with this, one of the best animated films I’ve ever seen. A rat named Remy (voice of Patton Oswalt) with a delicate palette and a knack for cooking finds himself instrumental in the return to greatness of a once prominent French restaurant. That’s because he takes up residence in a chef’s hat, moving his arms for cooking by tugging his hair as if it were marionette strings. The animation is flawless, and the script is decidedly adult. Ian Holm is the perfect choice to voice Skinner, a chef with evil intentions. Peter O’Toole is superb as the voice of vengeful food critic Anton Ego. The film is perfect, although I am convinced adults will dig it more than the kids. I can’t see how anything could beat this one out for Best Animated Feature at the next Oscars. It’s an amazing achievement.
