Raising the wall

Located within the Schluter-Systems Training and Distribution facility in the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center is Northern Nevada’s newest and biggest green wall. Designed by Moana Nursery Landscaping, the 400-square-feet vertical garden was designed to improve the air quality and working conditions of the building, as well as make the space more aesthetically pleasing. Unlike a green façade—a fence covered in ivy, for example—the plants on a green wall are anchored to the wall itself, suspended parallel to the ground. The wall will contribute oxygen and humidity to the interior of the building, and will be irrigated by a state of the art rainwater collection system. The new Schluter distribution facility also boasts a LEED Gold Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, making it one of the most environmentally friendly buildings in the Reno area.
