Quality of life watch

Nevadans are getting fatter. A report by Trust for America’s Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation last week reported that Nevada adolescents rank 11th in obesity in the United States, with adults at 32nd. The adolescent obesity rate is 34.2 percent and the adult rate is 25.1 percent.

In 2008, Nevada was named the 35th most obese state in America among adults—no figures were then provided for adolescents—with an obesity rate of 23.6 percent.

In obesity-related problems in 2008, Nevada ranked 27th highest in type 2 diabetes, with 7.6 percent of the population affected. In 2009, those figures are 24th and 8.1 percent.
