Puss and Boots

Rated 2.0

An amusing side character in the Shrek movies gets his own animated film, and he should’ve remained a side character. Antonio Banderas voices Puss in Boots in a new adventure that has him trying to steal magic beans with Humpty Dumpty (Zach Galifianakis). The movie feels strange, due in some part to the fact that Humpty Dumpty is creepy looking. Puss himself is a dull character when stretched out to fill an entire movie, and the adventure itself seems like it was made up one night after drinking too much Muscatel while reading a bunch of fairy tales. The film tries to walk the line that the Shrek films did, providing smart entertainment for adults that will keep the kids interested. It fails on both levels, and I think the kids will have Humpty Dumpty nightmares.
