Pope defended

At an Easter service at St. Thomas Aquinas Cathedral in Reno, Catholic priest Masseo Gonzales defended Pope Benedict from charges that he covered up pedophilia and allowed a pedophile priest to be transferred to a new duty station.

Gonzales suggested that “the media” has not reported the full story on Benedict. “It’s important for us to go a little bit deeper,” he said.

He did not specify what information he believes has been left out of coverage of the story.

Gonzales also noted that there have been calls for Benedict to step down, but argued that mistakes are not cause for abdication. “Can you imagine Simon Peter resigning after he denied our Lord three times?” he asked.
