Pirates of the Caribean

Longer than the Bible, but enjoyable nonetheless, this Disney film, based on the famous amusement park ride, is far better than anyone could’ve expected. Johnny Depp is terrific as a strange pirate seeking revenge on the evil Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) for stealing his ship, the Black Pearl. Problem is, Barbossa and his crew are cursed and turn into rotting, walking skeletons whenever moonlight hits them. The special effects are great. Depp provides supreme comic relief, and Keira Knightly is hot. (I know that has nothing to do with the quality of the film, but there you go.) A sequel is already in the works, so perhaps the actual Disneyland ride will be expanded as well. If that’s true, I’m going. That ride rocks!
