Personal adjournment

Eleven year old Alysia Joward, whose mother Caron Norton Joward was a delegate to the Nevada Democratic Convention in Reno last weekend, lost her enthusiasm for politics midway through Saturday afternoon and zonked out next to the wall of the convention hall. The convention was held at the Grand Sierra Resort, and Democratic delegates signed petitions callingd for better health benefits for the hotel’s employees. A right-wing outfit called Nevadans Against the Tax Grab hired young women (paid only $11 an hour) to distribute material attacking a Nevada State Education Association initiative petition that called for a gambling tax hike. The teachers petition has since been withdrawn in favor of a joint teachers/casino effort to raise room taxes.
