Oriental art

To understand Americans’ enchantment with the Far East, one need look no further than the alphabet. The bold, yet delicate brushstrokes of Japanese and Chinese characters possess an inherent visual grace that can make the simplest statement look like a work of art. Artist Carol Albrecht incorporates these symbols into a new exhibit, The Ch’i of Ink, on display through April 2 at the VSA arts of Nevada Gallery, 135 N. Sierra St., Suite C. Albrecht’s studies with Asian artists both in America and abroad were the groundwork for her stunning landscapes and collages, and she’ll demonstrate how she creates these works at 2 p.m. March 16 at the gallery. A reception for the artist will be held at 4:30 p.m. March 7. Regular gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Call 826-6100.
