Oh, Ruby, Ruby

The Center for Biological Diversity believes the Ruby natural gas pipeline, which is slated to run from Wyoming through Nevada to Oregon, will kill endangered fish, including the Lahontan cutthroat trout, which has already been lured back from extinction once. The group asked federal regulators in late July to withdraw their approval of the 677-mile pipeline, which is to be built by the El Paso Corporation. The CBD says the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s review of the project was flawed, adding that the pipeline would cut through 209 streams that serve as habitat for endangered fish, which also include the Warner Creek sucker, Lost River sucker, Colorado pikeminnow and others. The review also fails to consider the potential of a pipeline rupture at stream crossings, contends the CBD.
