Obama ignorant about small-town folks

“And it’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy toward people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.”
— Barack Obama

Interesting statement coming from Obama. He said this was an attempt to connect or empathize with the small-town people, but it sounds more like a slap in the face to me. Fine, say they are bitter and ignored, but then adding everything else “they cling to” just took things to the next level of rude and ignorant.

First off, don’t try to empathize with people you have never and will never understand. To say you were trying to show empathy would mean you actually have an idea what it is like to be an ignored small towner, and this seems a stretch. So in acting as though he knew them, Obama insults the small-town people of Pennsylvania. Obama throws in their face that they have certain values they may hold close and stretches this into the idea that they are all racist bigots.

Obama seems to be saying rural people are from less political areas so they must be ignorant and racist. They must be angry people who have nothing left to cling to so they hold onto their guns and sit around being angry at immigrants who are different than them.

Well, thank you very much, Mr. Obama, I had no idea this is the kind of person I was for having lived in a small town.

Most small-towners do have a gun, but they know how to use it. Look in the cities like Washington, D.C. Those people obviously have guns as well. That has to be the reason the crime rate is so extremely high. So it looks like small-town people aren’t the only gun-toting people in this country, Mr. Obama.

Maybe people do feel overlooked. Those small towns have small populations; it’s obvious they get less attention from politicians. Fewer votes there, so why bother? I am not going to disagree with the fact that these people are probably feeling neglected. They might even be angry. But for this man to go out and say all they know how to do is cling to religion and guns will lose him a lot of votes, which is as it should be.

Obama underestimates these redneck small-town folk. He should have brought up how he wants to help change their situation and gone into detail with this instead of insulting them while saying he understands them. Obviously he doesn’t. His speech has made that clear.

This 2008 election has been one of the most entertaining elections that I can recall. Since each of the candidates is a revolutionary candidate for president, interesting things have been happening. Candidates are at their wits’ end, and it is showing in the speeches they are giving, including this most recent insult by Obama.

This lack of judgment on his part is further proof of the strain of being one of these candidates who is trying to make history. His stress has led him to ramble about these poor small-town people, lashing out about their ways of life.
