Nicolas Cage, sporting a hairpiece not nearly as bad as the one he wore in Ghost Rider, plays Cris Johnson, a Vegas magician who can see two minutes into the future. A stolen nuclear bomb is loose in the United States, and a crack government agent (Julianne Moore) decides Cris is her solution. The nuclear bomb thing takes backstage to a love story that sees Cris pairing up with Liz, played by Jessica Biel, which means Cris can see Liz naked two minutes before she’s actually naked (bonus!). The premise of the film sounds interesting, but it’s jumbled by director Lee Tamahori, and it ends in an unsatisfactory manner. Not screened for critics, this is a dilemma becoming all too familiar to the once reliable Cage. He’s participating in a lot of bombs lately and needs a comeback. A couple more films like this, and we might forget he’s a decent actor.
