Frank Davis (left) and Robert Wexler flank the historic marker installed Saturday at the 31 Virginia Street site of Jacob Davis’s 1800s tailor shop where Davis invented blue jeans. Frank Davis, of San Francisco, represented the family at the ceremony dedicating the marker. He is Jacob Davis’s great-grandson. Wexler, of Reno, made the June 9, 2005, presentation to the Reno Historical Resources Commission asking that Davis be recognized with the marker. Incidentally, the Massachusett’s Institute of Technology’s Inventor Archive still refuses to recognize Davis as the sole inventor, giving most of the credit to Levi Strauss. Davis, after manufacturing the riveted pants on his own in Reno, cut Strauss in for half after Strauss agreed to handle the paperwork on the patent.
