Former President Jimmy Carter appeared in Carson City Monday at his son’s U.S. Senate candidacy announcement. Now widely admired, Carter was less so in Nevada during his national political career. He was twice defeated in Nevada general elections and lost one out of two of the state’s presidential primaries in which he competed. Carter spoke at Park Lane Mall in Reno on May 21, 1976, four days before the Nevada presidential primary during his first presidential run.
