It’s leaking, and a fundraiser was held recently to pay some of the legal bills associated with it, but the casino-supported railroad trench went into operation last week. Trains that previously went through town at surface level will now be out of sight. A shoofly on which trains ran during the trench construction will be removed in December. (Coincidentally, last week was also the 36th anniversary of the removal of the drill track, a third set of rails through Reno.) As the trains roll on, so does the sales-tax increase to pay for the trench.
