New House seat for state
Although Nevada is losing population, it will still pick up an additional seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.
In spite of its recent recession-driven loss of people, the state still led the nation in population gain since 2000 with a 35.1 percent increase. That cumulative total gives Nevada a fourth House seat.
The state had a single House member for its first 118 years. It elected a second one in 1982, then picked up a third in 2002.
